A group of ten people led by Alex Copland of Birdwatch Ireland paid the parklands a visit on Sunday 1st November ’09, to see the many winter migrant birds. The birds have migrated from colder locations seeking warmer climates and more food. The whooper swans have arrived from Iceland and the lapwings from Scotland, Scandinavia and Iceland. The rewards of this particular outing to the parklands Mr Fanning described as “experiencing beauty and a haven of peace”, he also goes on to describe Lough Boora Parklands as having “a treasure on our doorstep in this sanctuary for wildlife, which represents a positive environmental story”. It is recommended to go bird watching on a day in which the weather is reasonable good, between the hours of 1 and 3pm for the best views. |
